Brief History of Fulton County and the City of Wauseon :
Fulton County was created in 1950 with land from Henry, Lucas, and Williams counties. It is named in honor of Robert Fulton, the inventor of the Steamboat.
Within Fulton County is 1 city, 2 census designated areas, 6 villages, 12 townships and 19 unincorporated communities.
The city of Wauseon holds the county seat and was established 1854 when the railroad was extended to that point. It was named after Wauseon, a Potawatomi Native American who lived in the area before the founding of the state.
The Potawatomi lived mainly in Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, and Ontario, Canada at the time of European contact in the early 1600s. They spoke an Algonquian language. The Potawatomi were closely related to the Objibwe and the Ottawa, and allied themselves together in a confederacy called the Council of Three Fires. The Potawatomi did not have a large presence in Ohio and, throughout the late 1700s and early 1800s, signed numerous treaties forsaking any land claims in Ohio. Wauseon, the Indian Chief, died in 1854 in Mississippi. He was a noble Indian and highly respected. He stood six feet three inches in his moccasins, and was of fine form and well proportioned.
Demographics and Crime Statistics:
The population was 7,332 at the 2010 census. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4. 9 square miles (12. 8 km²), all of it land, with no rivers that running through it.
The median income for a household in the city was $39,591, and the median income for a family was $48,981. Males had a median income of $32,645 versus $24,042 for females. The per capita income for the city was $17,491. About 3. 9% of families and 5. 2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 6. 5% of those under age 18 and 1. 7% of those age 65 or over.
The crime rate in Wauseon is considerably higher than the national average across all communities in America from the largest to the smallest, although at 25 crimes per one thousand residents, it is not among the communities with the very highest crime rate. The chance of becoming a victim of either violent or property crime in Wauseon is 1 in 40. Based on FBI crime data, Wauseon is not one of the safest communities in America. Relative to Ohio, Wauseon has a crime rate that is higher than 76% of the state's cities and towns of all sizes.

select a suitable cemetery site. The location is on the old section of
the cemetery where the grave marker for Nathaniel Leggett is found, was
purchased from E.L. Barber. The newly formed Wauseon Cemetery

1866. The following year the association passed the nine and one-half
acre cemetery to the joint control of the village of Wauseon and Clinton
Township.
